INITIATIVES | Bringing people from different disciplines together is paramount to success. Different points of view shed light on a subject in a much different way than any one person or group every could. At THNK, we therefore endeavor to cross boundaries in order to solve the big issues. And we believe that if we are working together, nothing is impossible. Masterpeace thinks so, too.
Masterpeace is a global peace project – possibly the largest ever – with the goal of bringing together activists, artists, NGOs, cities and companies to work on social causes. It starts with the idea that each group has a skill set and a network that is needed to create professional and sustainable solutions to problems. Masterpeace is currently focusing its attention on the reduction of 14 ongoing conflicts around the world.
The actual work that goes on involves lessons, materials and activities focused on empowerment, peace education, social entrepreneurship, and fundraising. In large part, Masterpeace is a grassroots effort to get people invested in not only the project at hand, but the process of creating peace. A great deal of their plan involves the creation of artistic ‘Masterpeaces’. They want all kinds of artists from the conflicted regions to experience collaborating with each other, bringing attention to the conflicts in order to find solutions. They believe that starting a dialogue will help stop the conflict.
Masterpeace’s goal is to get everyone involved in some way. They expect 20 million people worldwide to be involved in the next few years. On 21 September 2014, which is not coincidentally International Peace Day, they have scheduled a concert near the pyramids in Cairo, Egypt that will promote solidarity, cooperation, and international collaboration. It is hoped to be a huge magical event that will not only be the culmination of their efforts, but the start of something big. Through the exchange of ideas, they believe, togetherness can be achieved.
