Sumita Ghose
THRIVE - Class 04
I am from India and have been able to live and work in different regions of my country. I love the diversity, the fact that every 100 km or so there is a different language/ dialect spoken, people dress differently, wear and eat different kinds of food. I am passionate about engendering change so that marginalised communities, especially women, can have a voice and access to opportunities for self-development. I believe that work can be a powerful instrument for self-development, and I have chosen to work with craftspeople and those interested in handicrafts by creating rangSutra.
rangSutra is a community-owned social enterprise – a space for people, especially women, to learn, work, find themselves, and give back. I lead by example and try to be the change I wish to see in this world. I enjoy talking to people, learning from them, and, if required, motivating others to take the initiative and have more agency in their lives. Our experiences over the past 16 years have shown that it is possible to do business by keeping people at the centre and ensuring that work does no harm to the planet.
I look forward to growing this idea and this space – rangSutra – in India and other parts of the world. I love travelling both within my country and abroad and the rich experiences that travel offers. Additionally, I enjoy walking, practising yoga, reading and listening to music.
