I am the Director of Waste Management of the Lisbon Municipality, and believe in self-sustaining urban spaces. I have worked on several projects in the Civil Protection Department, initially in planning and operations, moving on to direct the department for three years - where I addressed very fragile and complex contexts. Emergency services became a focal point for the municipality during this period. Building on this experience I started my current role in Urban Waste Management in a time where waste began to be reframed.
The wellbeing of the people I manage is one of my main concerns. I feel that on a daily basis I need to challenge them to take their share of responsibility to build resilient processes that address and solve social and ecological challenges (fast response and prevention). I consider that I can contribute to making cities like Lisbon greener, cleaner and more welcoming, engaging everyone in the process of caring and using respectfully.
