Saying Farewell to the THNK Home

Home is not a place, it’s a feeling.

As THNK prepares to vacate our beautiful building on the Keizersgracht, we want to invite everyone in the THNK Community to say goodbye. We have designed an asynchronous activity that everyone can participate in, both physically and virtually.

For those of you who live in or near Amsterdam, you are invited to come visit the THNK Home starting today, Monday 12 April. The activity will be open to visit until next Thursday 22 April, from 9:00-17:00 Monday through Thursday. Please ring the doorbell and Bert Jan will let you in. The activity will take place in the 1st Floor Program Room; instructions will be available when you arrive.

For those of you who cannot visit the building in person, we have replicated the physical activities in a virtual space so that everyone can participate. Scroll down to find the three virtual “stations” where you can stop and reflect. The final stop, your WISH for THNK, will be compiled into a physical relic that we will take with us to our new space. We hope to see many of your beautiful faces there.


To be fully present in the experience, we encourage you to “arrive” at the THNK Home. The way you do this is up to you. Think about the times you have been in the THNK building. What is it you do first? Do you chat with the person sitting at the reception desk? Do you get a coffee? Go to the kitchen?

If it feels right, move to a different space in your house. Make a coffee or tea. Send a quick “hello” message to your favorite classmate.

Each of our experiences at the THNK Home have been marked by many happenings, learnings, and serendipitous moments. But it is the encounters we have had with others that are often the most impactful and the most lasting.

To commemorate the beautiful encounters that have taken place at the THNK Home, we invite you to write a short letter (just a few sentences is fine) to someone who you met in the THNK building. In your letter, tell them what that encounter and connection means to you. Letters can be anonymous, or not!

Write your letter on this Miro board so we can collect all the beautiful stories and memories in one place. (For those new to Miro, there are instructions on the left side of the board.)

Part of what makes the THNK building unique and magical is the variety of the spaces inside. Perhaps you remember the bright and spacious 3rd floor program room, or communal lunches in the kitchen. Maybe it’s the big THNK letters in the entryway, or the freezing cold or sweltering hot attic where you might hide away for a meditation session or a nap.

In this next exercise we invite you to “go” to your favorite place in the THNK building and take some time to reflect there. To begin, make yourself comfortable. If it helps, move to a different space in your house. Perhaps you want to light a candle. Feel free to sit or lie down, whatever works best for you.

Close your eyes and take yourself to that magical spot in the THNK Home that holds a special place in your heart. Take a few minutes to arrive there. As you settle in, reflect on the following questions:

  • Where is this place?
  • What feelings come up for you there?
  • What do you see?
  • What do you hear?
  • What does this spot represent? What does it mean to you?

When you are done reflecting, take a moment to thank this magical spot for giving you the gifts that it has given you. Then, open your eyes.

We may be leaving the current THNK home, but THNK continues on! Soon enough we will move into a new Home and we want to bring our entire community with us when we do so. Of course, we hope you will all come visit our new space as soon as that is possible! In the meantime, we ask you to help co-create a physical relic of the THNK Community that we can display in our new space.

While the building holds many memories for all of us, the power of THNK is the beautiful community we have built. And so, we want to see you! This final activity is twofold:

  1. Take a selfie! No need to overthink it, we just want to see your beautiful faces.
  2. Go to this Kudoboard and upload your photo. In the text field, we ask you to share your biggest wish for THNK, for the Community, or for the world as we make this transition!

(No need to create an account, but just remember to sign your name on your message.)

In May, we will compile all of the beautiful photos and words into a collage that we can display in the future THNK Home. Because nothing makes THNK feel more like home than all of you. ❤️
